Joe Amabile eyes NYC Marathon while facing brain surgery

Just weeks after discovering a blueberry-sized lesion in his brain, Bachelor in Paradise alum Joe Amabile has secured a spot in the 2026 New York City Marathon. The reality star is currently preparing for an upcoming craniotomy, balancing the gravity of his diagnosis with a deliberate effort to remain hopeful.

Amabile, 40, shared a screenshot of his marathon acceptance on Instagram, captioning the post with a cautious "We’ll see" and a crossed-fingers emoji. While the November 1 race date falls roughly three months after his scheduled procedure at Memorial Sloan Kettering, his participation remains entirely contingent on his recovery. The lesion, which doctors suspect to be an early-stage glioma, was identified during a preventative Prenuvo full-body scan.

The path to surgery has been marked by logistical hurdles, including a one-week delay caused by a hospital transfer. Amabile described the waiting period as a complex emotional experience, noting the tension between his desire to move past the diagnosis quickly and the sobering reality of undergoing a craniotomy. Throughout the process, he has relied on a support network that includes his wife, Serena Pitt, and several peers from the Bachelor franchise, such as Wells Adams and Joey Graziadei, who have publicly offered their encouragement. For now, Amabile is focused on the surgery itself, viewing the marathon milestone as a potential horizon for his post-recovery life.
