National Trust Names 17 Leaders to 60th Advisory Class

Seventeen civic leaders and preservation experts have joined the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s volunteer network, marking the 60th anniversary of the program. These advisors will assist the organization in navigating mounting threats to historic sites while leveraging their professional experience to bolster community resilience across the United States.

The incoming cohort represents a diverse range of disciplines, including preservation law, Tribal advocacy, and architectural revitalization. By integrating these experts into its national framework, the Trust aims to deepen its impact at the state and local levels. Brent Leggs, President and CEO of the organization, noted that the infusion of new leadership arrives at a critical juncture for the preservation movement, which currently faces significant external risks.

Advisors function as a bridge between the National Trust and regional stakeholders, offering guidance on everything from Historic Tax Credits to Main Street development. According to Edward I. Torrez, Chair of the National Trust Advisors, the new members bring the necessary breadth of experience to address the complexities of modern preservation. The group includes representatives from 17 states and territories, spanning from Alaska to the U.S. Virgin Islands, tasked with supporting the Trust’s mission to safeguard the nation’s cultural heritage.
