The scope of the project is significant, with veteran stars taking on multiple personas: Sarah Paulson is set to portray seven distinct roles, Evan Peters will tackle five, and Jessica Lange is returning to play all four of her previous iconic characters. Murphy likened the ensemble effort to the Avengers, noting that the sheer scale of the pitch was enough to convince long-time holdouts to return to the franchise.
The production has faced its share of turbulence, most notably the departure of Ariana Grande, who exited the project due to scheduling conflicts with her tour and upcoming album. Despite this, the cast remains expansive, featuring Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, and Billie Lourd, alongside newer additions like Paul Anthony Kelly and Joey Pollari. Evan Peters, who last appeared in the show's tenth season, described the experience as an alumni reunion that he initially doubted would ever happen, especially regarding Lange's participation. The season, which Murphy spent years writing to ensure a specific, cohesive conclusion, is scheduled to premiere on September 24.
