Starship Technologies sued after delivery robot injures Arizona woman

According to an Arizona State University Police Department report, the incident began when the device struck Perez while she was working. The victim claims that after the initial impact, the robot attempted to reverse into her a second time as it tried to leave the scene. Legal representatives from the Vrana Law Firm, who are handling the case, stated that their client now suffers from lifelong impairment due to the injuries sustained during the encounter.

Under Arizona statutes, companies operating autonomous delivery devices are required to maintain at least $100,000 in liability coverage per unit and ensure active human monitoring of the technology. Starship Technologies has provided investigators with internal video footage recorded by the robot at the time of the collision, though the company has not yet issued a public statement regarding the pending litigation. The firm recently announced it is winding down its university campus operations across the United States to shift its focus toward grocery and hot food delivery in urban markets, a move involving the redeployment of over 1,200 units.
