John Gomez Backs Xavier Becerra for California Governor

Gomez, founder of the nation’s largest Latino-owned consumer rights law firm, cited Becerra’s extensive resume—spanning his tenure as U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, California Attorney General, and a long-time member of Congress—as the primary driver for his support. The endorsement was formalized during an event co-hosted by Gomez’s firm, which drew a cross-section of San Diego’s legal, civic, and public safety leadership, including District Attorney Summer Stephan and Sheriff Kelly Martinez.

For Gomez, the alignment centers on a shared vision of California’s multicultural identity and the necessity for leadership that addresses the economic pressures on working families. Should Becerra prevail in November, he would become the state’s first Latino governor in over 150 years. Gomez emphasized that this campaign represents more than just a historic milestone; he believes Becerra possesses the requisite experience to bridge divides and manage the state’s complex challenges with the urgency demanded by the current political climate.
