The upgrade reflects structural improvements in the bank's financial core, specifically regarding portfolio diversification and a notable reduction in credit exposure concentration. Moody's pointed to the bank's proactive balance-sheet management and the successful implementation of Exposure Exchange Agreements during 2025 and 2026 as key drivers of this improved credit profile. The institution maintains a 0% arrears ratio, bolstered by consistent liquidity and reliable access to global markets even under stress.
Executive President Gisela Sánchez noted that this move aligns with similar upgrades from S&P Global Ratings and Japan Credit Ratings over the past year. The bank’s strategic position is further reinforced by the ninth General Capital Increase, which raised authorized capital from US$7 billion to US$10 billion. This expansion includes the integration of Panama and the Dominican Republic as Series A shareholders, providing a foundation for future growth and the potential addition of highly rated members. The current positive outlook anticipates continued improvement in capital metrics as the bank expands its operational footprint across its 15 member nations.
