Blackbaud and Student First Expand Partnership for Connected Campus AI

Colleges and universities are facing mounting pressure to streamline operations, leading Blackbaud and Student First to launch a strategic innovation partnership. By integrating AI-powered student information systems with financial and advancement platforms, the companies aim to replace fragmented campus infrastructure with a unified, data-driven operating model.

The collaboration builds on Blackbaud’s earlier investment in Student First, moving beyond simple integration into a shared roadmap for product development, sales, and marketing. For many institutions, critical data remains siloed across departments, creating barriers that hinder everything from financial aid processing to student enrollment. By linking Student First’s cloud-native student information system with Blackbaud’s suite of financial and advancement tools, the partnership seeks to automate manual workflows and improve overall institutional visibility.

Mark Hanshaw, associate provost and general counsel at Cumberland University, noted that the combined capabilities of Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT and Student First allow the school to automate time-intensive tasks like degree audits and billing. Beyond administrative efficiency, the initiative leverages predictive intelligence to identify potential risks and trends early, allowing administrators to allocate resources more effectively. The companies plan to showcase these connected campus workflows at the upcoming bbcon 2026 conference in Columbus, Ohio.
