Nationwide Vigils Demand Accountability for Deaths in ICE Custody

The vigils, supported by coalitions including Public Citizen and the League of United Latin American Citizens, honored individuals such as Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, Johan Sebastían Guerrero, and Juan Jairo Coronilla Durán. In the Twin Cities, protesters also marked the six-month anniversary of the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, two U.S. citizens fatally shot by Department of Homeland Security agents while observing immigration enforcement activities.

Demonstrations spanned from Chicago’s Grant Park to Los Angeles, where participants carried symbolic coffins to represent the human cost of the federal crackdown. In Atlanta, organizers highlighted the displacement of families, while in Silicon Valley, activists joined local workers to voice concerns over the climate of fear gripping immigrant communities. Speakers at these events emphasized that the reach of federal agents has extended beyond the border, affecting neighborhoods and families who now find themselves living in a state of constant uncertainty.
