Tenisha Warner Battles for Late Husband's Estate

Tenisha Warner, widow of The Cosby Show star Malcolm-Jamal Warner, has launched a legal challenge in Georgia’s DeKalb County Superior Court. She seeks $1.27 million from a family trust, asserting the funds were intended for her and their nine-year-old daughter, MacKenzie, but were trapped by an outdated estate plan.

The legal filing follows the one-year anniversary of Warner’s death at age 54, who drowned in a riptide while vacationing in Costa Rica. Tenisha argues that her husband was in the process of replacing an estate plan drafted in 1996—decades before their marriage—but died before the paperwork could be finalized. She claims the lack of an updated plan has left her struggling to provide for their child as a single parent.

Beyond the primary estate dispute, Tenisha’s lawsuit details several alleged financial agreements made during their decade-long relationship. These include claims for unpaid life insurance proceeds, outstanding anniversary payments, and compensation for her work as his chief of staff and assistant. She maintains that the funds are necessary to uphold the commitments Warner made to his family. The lawsuit currently seeks to freeze the assets of the family trust, which is managed by the actor’s mother, Pamela Warner. The allegations remain unproven in court, and Pamela Warner has not issued a public response to the filing.
