John Boumphrey, UK Country Manager at Amazon, described the launch as part of a broader commitment to increasing delivery speed across the United Kingdom. The company currently operates micro-fulfillment sites in East Manchester, with additional locations in Salford and Stockport scheduled to open in the coming weeks. Eligible Manchester residents can order daily staples ranging from fresh produce and medicine to household goods like nappies and pet supplies, alongside items from brands such as Kellogg’s and Warburtons.
The competitive landscape for rapid grocery delivery is intensifying, as traditional retailers adjust their strategies to meet consumer demand for speed. Tesco recently announced plans to integrate its Whoosh delivery service with Uber Eats and Deliveroo. While Tesco’s proprietary Whoosh platform already reaches 70% of the UK population with delivery times starting at 20 minutes, these new partnerships will allow customers to access Clubcard pricing and loyalty points through third-party delivery apps. The Uber Eats integration is set for an August debut, with the Deliveroo rollout scheduled for later this summer.
