Whoopi Goldberg and The View Hosts Dismiss Odyssey Casting Backlash

“If you don’t want to see it, then don’t go see the damn movie,” Whoopi Goldberg declared on The View, addressing conservative critics who have attacked Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey over its diverse cast. The EGOT winner joined her co-hosts in questioning why opponents are fixated on casting choices.

The blockbuster, featuring Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, and Elliot Page, has become a lightning rod for right-wing commentators, including Elon Musk. Despite the noise, the film opened at the top of the North American box office with $124.5 million, reaching a global total of $263.5 million against a $250 million budget. Audience reception remains high, with 97% of viewers providing positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

Alyssa Farah Griffin, a conservative co-host on the show, argued that the film aligns with traditional values such as devotion to family and faith, rejecting claims that the production is fueled by progressive agendas. Sara Haines added that the criticism often comes from individuals who have not actually watched the film, calling it a unique form of ignorance. Meanwhile, Elon Musk has responded to the controversy by pledging to use his AI platform, Grok, to create a version he describes as historically accurate, even suggesting he would back a $100 million adaptation directed by Mel Gibson.
