On average, farmers reported spending $1,500 more to fill onsite tanks during the planting season compared to the previous year.
These figures likely underestimate the total financial impact, as they exclude the rising costs of running diesel-powered greenhouse generators and the increased expenses for truckers transporting goods to market. Data from the US Energy Information Administration confirms that diesel prices reached $5.60 per gallon in May. While a brief ceasefire in June provided temporary relief, the resumption of hostilities this month pushed national averages back to $5.20 per gallon. Despite the domestic fallout, the president recently indicated he is considering a new, large-scale military operation against Iran.
