BLADE to Develop Autonomous Logistics Vehicles for U.S. Army

The U.S. Army has selected HDT Robotics, operating as BLADE, as one of five industry partners for the Project Sustainment initiative. The program aims to integrate autonomous ground systems into supply chains, effectively removing soldiers from high-risk logistics missions within contested tactical environments.

To fulfill the contract, the company’s Advanced Battle Lab is deploying the Dire WOLF, a six-wheeled diesel-electric hybrid based on its WOLF-X platform. This vehicle is engineered to navigate extreme terrain, utilizing pivot-steering and non-pneumatic Michelin Tweels to ensure mobility across debris-strewn ground without the risk of tire failure. Beyond transport, the platform functions as a mobile power station, providing exportable energy for units operating at the forward edge of the battlefield.

Tom Van Doren, President of Robotics at BLADE, stated that the system leverages two decades of unmanned vehicle engineering to minimize warfighter exposure. By automating the distribution of heavy mission-essential cargo, the Dire WOLF joins the existing Hunter WOLF and WOLF-X fleet to support secure supply lines where traditional human-crewed transport remains vulnerable.
