Schmertzler brings a diverse professional background to the Conshohocken-based firm. Beyond his current role as chairman of the biotech company PTC Therapeutics, he maintains a long-standing academic presence as a lecturer at Yale University. His career spans decades of corporate finance and governance experience, including a tenure as a managing director at Morgan Stanley and a leadership role at Credit Suisse First Boston Equity Partners. He also served as an independent director for Lehman Commercial Paper during its post-bankruptcy period.
Hartley Rogers, executive co-chairman of Hamilton Lane, noted that Schmertzler’s expertise in technology and governance will provide a critical perspective for the board. The firm, which manages $1 trillion in assets, aims to leverage this experience to support its ongoing scaling efforts. Schmertzler, who holds degrees from Yale and Harvard Business School, currently oversees multiple entities, including Dispel and AgNovos, and serves as a charter trustee of Phillips Academy Andover.
