With U.S. data center projects facing years of grid delays and community opposition, Sacramento-based Infinium Edge is launching a program to repurpose underutilized industrial power. By installing factory-built immersion cooling modules directly into existing facilities, the company aims to bypass traditional construction timelines for high-density AI compute.

The initiative, dubbed EdgeSites, centers on the Vector ONE—a self-contained, modular unit capable of housing 1 megawatt of AI compute capacity. These systems utilize proprietary immersion cooling technology that requires no municipal water and occupies 70% less floor space than conventional air-cooled setups. Because the units are designed to operate behind existing electrical meters in commercial or industrial buildings, they tap into the 40-60% of unused power capacity currently sitting idle across millions of U.S. sites.

This approach targets the growing shift toward AI inference, which demands distributed, rapid-deployment infrastructure rather than massive, centralized data centers. By sidestepping the multi-year wait for new grid interconnections and avoiding new building construction, Infinium Edge claims it can bring capacity online in months. CEO Robert Schuetzle noted that the industry’s traditional construction-heavy playbook cannot keep pace with current AI timelines, effectively leaving vast amounts of electrical capacity stranded.

Infinium Edge manages the full lifecycle of these deployments, offering a revenue-sharing model for property owners and a kilowatt-month pricing structure for AI enterprises. The program arrives at a time when regulatory friction and water restrictions have stalled an estimated $156 billion in planned data center projects. By converting established industrial footprints into active compute nodes, the company seeks to build a nationally scaled network for high-performance computing without the friction of greenfield development.
