The duo is set to reunite on screen for the psychological thriller Bunker, written and directed by Florian Zeller. In the film, Bardem portrays an architect tasked with constructing a secure residence for a billionaire, a project that prompts his on-screen wife to re-evaluate their own marriage. Zeller specifically crafted the roles for the couple, citing the strength of their dynamic as a central element of the narrative.
Their partnership dates back to the early 1990s, when they first appeared together in Jamón, Jamón. While Bardem recalls an undeniable chemistry during that initial project, the pair did not begin a relationship until reuniting 15 years later for Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Since their 2010 wedding in the Bahamas, the couple has balanced high-profile careers with a private life, raising two children, Leo and Luna. Despite three decades of acquaintance, Cruz maintains that the process of discovery within their relationship remains ongoing. Bunker is scheduled to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this September, with a wider theatrical release anticipated between late 2026 and early 2027.
