Shell digitizes UK convenience network with RELEX AI

Shell is integrating AI-driven forecasting and replenishment software from RELEX Solutions across its UK Mobility & Convenience network. The initiative aims to automate planning models for more than 550 locations operating under the Shell Select, Little Waitrose, and Co-op banners, focusing on fresh product optimization and weather-based demand patterns.

The platform allows store teams to generate automated order proposals that account for product lifecycles and promotional cycles. Staff can manage these requirements through a mobile interface, enabling them to review and refine order volumes before final confirmation. By centralizing these functions, the company expects to streamline day-to-day operations and improve overall stock availability.

Janine Albrecht Webb, UK General Manager at Shell Mobility & Convenience, noted that the software provides the necessary tools to improve planning across their retail footprint. Mikko Kärkkäinen, CEO of RELEX Solutions, emphasized that the implementation prioritizes AI as the primary engine for store operations, allowing for faster deployment than traditional large-scale retail transformations.
