Yoti and Licensing Connect partner on digital age verification

Hospitality and retail venues are preparing for a shift in UK licensing laws as Yoti integrates its digital ID technology into the Licensing Connect platform. The collaboration aims to streamline age verification for alcohol sales by allowing businesses to scan government-certified digital identities rather than relying on physical documents.

The integration allows staff to verify credentials via the Licensing Connect app, which already manages compliance tools such as incident logs and refusal registers. By using Yoti’s ID Checker, employees can scan a customer’s QR code to confirm their age without storing sensitive personal data. This process provides an immediate, verifiable result, such as an "over 18" confirmation, which minimizes the risk of staff accepting fraudulent physical documents or making subjective judgment errors.

This transition aligns with upcoming revisions to the Mandatory Licensing Conditions, slated for autumn 2026, which will officially permit digital IDs aligned with the UK government’s Digital Verification Services Trust Framework. Yoti CEO Robin Tombs noted that the partnership provides a secure, private method for venues to meet these regulatory standards. Licensing Connect founder David Dadds added that the technology helps businesses remain inspection-ready while simplifying the burden on staff, who currently face significant pressure when evaluating traditional identification.
