Damon explained the choice during a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. To emphasize the scale of the giants, the production utilized forced perspective, casting extremely tall and short performers to manipulate the viewer's sense of size. Dalton, whom Damon praised for having the most impressive arms he has ever seen, performed the physical heavy lifting required to sell these shots. The actor met Dalton on set, where he personally thanked her for the labor she poured into the role.
Beyond the technical stunt work, the production proved physically grueling for the cast. Damon noted that the decision to film action sequences in sandals on rocky terrain left the middle-aged ensemble—including Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Robert Pattinson—relying on heavy doses of Advil to manage persistent back pain and foot injuries. Despite his A-list status, Damon insisted he received no special treatment, sharing the same conditions and rations as the rest of the crew to foster a sense of collective endurance.
Preparing for the role also demanded significant personal sacrifice. At 55, Damon underwent a rigorous transformation, losing 167 pounds through strict dietary changes and a gluten-free regimen. Reflecting on the intensity of the shoot, the actor emphasized that while he was committed to the physical requirements of this project, he has reached a point where such extreme body fluctuations are no longer sustainable or safe for his health.
