Ocado Secures New European Automation Contract for 2028 Launch

Ocado Group has signed a contract to construct a high-capacity customer fulfilment centre for an unnamed European retailer, marking another expansion for its proprietary robotics suite. The project, slated for a 2028 launch, will utilize the company’s Re:Imagined technology, including automated freezer systems and high-speed robotic picking units.

The new facility will occupy a 530,000-square-foot footprint at Indurent Park Stoke Central in Stoke-on-Trent. Designed to handle significant online order volumes, the site is expected to begin operations at roughly half its design capacity. This agreement follows Ocado's recent partnership with Asda, which aims to overhaul the British supermarket’s e-commerce infrastructure by 2027.

Chief Executive Tim Steiner noted that these deals underscore the rising demand for Ocado’s end-to-end technology, which currently processes over 70 million orders annually across 11 countries. For the Stoke-on-Trent site, the company plans to integrate its latest 600s bot and On-Grid Robotic Pick technology. These developments arrive as Ocado pivots away from mutual exclusivity contracts in key markets, including the United States, to broaden the reach of its automation platform.
