Delta Electronics Leads AI-Driven Coral Restoration at ICRS

At the 16th International Coral Reef Symposium in New Zealand, Delta has become the first Taiwanese company to host a dedicated session. The initiative unites global experts to address the fourth global coral bleaching event by integrating artificial intelligence, digital twins, and cross-sector collaboration into marine conservation efforts.

The session, titled Driving Technology Innovation through Cross-sectoral Partnerships for Coral Reef Resilience and Restoration, marks a shift toward integrating industrial technology with marine biology. Professor Chang-Feng Dai, who chaired the event, noted that no single discipline can mitigate the threats posed by climate change, necessitating the fusion of academia, government, and private industry. The forum showcased practical applications including AI-powered image recognition and biocompatible titanium materials designed to minimize damage during coral sampling.

Delta’s involvement extends beyond convening experts. The company is currently developing a coral conservation center and utilizing AI-powered digital twins to pinpoint optimal restoration sites. Wim Chang, CEO of the Delta Electronics Foundation, emphasized that these technological assets are intended to support global research efforts, particularly in anticipation of the coming super El Niño. By leveraging its background in power and thermal management, Delta is now applying large-area imaging and the Coral Master Data Model to foster sustainability projects in collaboration with institutions across the United States, Australia, and Singapore.
