The deployment of Traxlo’s software represents a shift toward more responsive in-store management for the retailer. By digitizing replenishment tasks, Penny intends to reduce the time staff spend on manual oversight, shifting focus toward immediate product availability. A company spokesperson noted that the technology is intended to help the brand address day-to-day operational needs more effectively, ensuring shelves remain stocked to meet fluctuating consumer demand.
This move follows a period of technological experimentation for the wider REWE Group. Earlier this year, the parent company launched a Pick & Go autonomous store in Hanover, Germany, utilizing computer vision systems developed by Trigo. While the Hanover project focuses on checkout-free automation, the partnership with Traxlo in Romania highlights a parallel commitment to optimizing the fundamental mechanics of physical retail through iterative, data-driven software solutions.
