Memorial Healthcare System Unveils Expanded Emergency Room in Pembroke Pines

After four decades of serving Pembroke Pines as a 24/7 care center, the facility at 801 S. Douglas Road has officially transitioned into a full-scale, 30,000-square-foot freestanding emergency room, marking a $52 million investment aimed at relieving pressure on South Florida’s regional hospital networks.

The new Douglas Road ER, which begins public operations in August 2026, functions as a licensed department of Memorial Hospital Pembroke. Unlike the urgent care model it replaces, this site is equipped for trauma stabilization and advanced diagnostics around the clock. The facility houses 41 treatment spaces, including specialized pediatric rooms, a trauma resuscitation bay, and a bariatric suite, supported by on-site laboratory services and 24-hour imaging technology.

Shane Strum, interim CEO of Memorial Healthcare System, noted that the expansion is part of a broader strategy to bolster regional infrastructure against the pressures of a growing population. By integrating with the existing network of specialists and hospitals, the facility allows for seamless patient transfers for those requiring surgery or long-term recovery. Alongside the Red Road ER, this location is projected to manage more than 32,850 patient visits annually, offering a critical bridge for residents in South Broward and Northwest Miami-Dade.
