The system, designed for 4-inch wafer processing, will anchor a collaborative research initiative overseen by Dr. Krishna Muralidharan of the University’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Beyond academic research, the equipment serves as a showroom for the company’s manufacturing technology, allowing potential distributors and institutional clients to evaluate the hardware in a real-world setting. By positioning the unit within Arizona’s semiconductor ecosystem, MetaOptics plans to shorten feedback loops and accelerate its commercialization roadmap for silicon photonics and integrated optics applications.
Executive Chairman Thng Chong Kim stated that the deployment is intended to provide technical validation while deepening ties with domestic partners. The facility will specifically target the growing demand for quick-turnaround production, enabling clients to move from initial design concepts to physical samples within weeks. This installation represents a core component of the company’s broader U.S. expansion, leveraging Arizona’s existing infrastructure to support emerging sectors such as co-packaged optics and advanced mobile imaging.
