Quantinuum and SoftBank Map Quantum Readiness in New Roadmap

Quantinuum and SoftBank Corp. have released a collaborative white paper charting the path from current quantum hardware to industrial-scale utility. The study evaluates how improvements in quantum chemistry and graph analytics align with Quantinuum’s hardware roadmap, providing a framework for businesses to prepare for the fault-tolerant era.

The analysis focuses on two specific domains currently undergoing research: material discovery and telecommunications fraud detection. By anchoring these applications against projected hardware advancements, the companies aim to identify exactly when specific problem classes will move from theoretical research to executable industrial tools. This effort serves as a foundational guide for integrating quantum systems with existing AI and high-performance computing infrastructure.

Duncan Jones, General Manager of the Applications Group at Quantinuum, emphasized that organizations do not need to wait for fully fault-tolerant systems to extract value from quantum computing. Instead, they can refine their technical and operational readiness by benchmarking applications on today’s hardware. Ryuji Wakikawa, CTO at SoftBank, added that the industry has shifted from questioning whether quantum systems can deliver value to determining which problems are solvable at specific stages of hardware maturity. The document is intended as a conceptual guide for future infrastructure development rather than a financial forecast.
