WesBanco Reports Strong Second Quarter Earnings Growth

Wheeling-based WesBanco reported a significant uptick in second-quarter profitability, with net income available to common shareholders reaching $88.4 million. The regional bank holding company cited robust annualized loan growth of 8.3% and a record-low efficiency ratio of 51.2% as core drivers for the quarterly performance.

The bank’s financial results for the period ending June 30, 2026, represent a substantial increase from the $54.9 million reported in the same quarter last year. Diluted earnings per share climbed to $0.91, up from $0.57 in the second quarter of 2025. These gains were bolstered by a 4-basis-point expansion in the net interest margin to 3.63%, which the company attributed to lower funding costs and successful asset repricing.

Despite an elevated $345 million in commercial real estate payoffs, WesBanco managed to grow its commercial loan pipeline to a record $2.3 billion. CEO Jeff Jackson highlighted the success of the firm's relationship-focused model, particularly in expansion markets like Northern Virginia, Tennessee, and South Florida. The company also improved its operational leverage, achieving a record-low efficiency ratio of 51.2%. WesBanco maintains a solid capital position, with Tier I leverage at 9.83% and a CET 1 ratio of 10.70%, supporting its ongoing strategy of organic expansion.
