The inaugural event, titled The Gridiron Bowl, is scheduled for August 21, 2026, and will be hosted by Green Bay Packers Hall of Famer Ahman Green. Through the association's Gridiron Gaming program, participants will pair youth currently served by Samaritas with retired professional players. Organizers intend for the competition to serve as a bridge, utilizing the engagement of gaming to build personal connections and provide mentorship opportunities for children awaiting adoption.
Proceeds from the tournament will be divided between Samaritas and the PFRPA Greater Good Fund, a charitable foundation that manages health and educational programs for retired players. David Morin, CEO of Samaritas, noted that the collaboration emphasizes the shared values of teamwork and community health. PFRPA Executive Director Joe Agbasi echoed this sentiment, viewing the event as a way for former athletes to extend their impact beyond their professional careers. The organizations plan to release further details regarding participants and sponsorship in the coming weeks.
