Aragon Research: The AI Pivot in Workflow and Content Automation

Sixty percent of workflow and content automation providers will integrate human-in-the-loop AI coworkers by late 2027, according to a new report from Aragon Research. The analysis signals a definitive departure from deterministic, rules-based routing toward complex, multi-agent orchestration capable of managing end-to-end enterprise tasks.

The 2026 Globe report evaluates 13 industry leaders, documenting a market shift where basic automation is rapidly becoming a commodity. As generative intelligence matures, enterprises are pivoting their strategy to favor vendors that offer conversational orchestration over legacy document processing. Jim Lundy, CEO and founder of Aragon Research, warns that providers failing to adapt their portfolios to include these intelligent assistants risk losing market share to more agile, AI-forward competitors.

Technological advancement is moving beyond simple form filling. Modern systems now utilize dynamic, context-aware dialogues to collect information and trigger specialized micro-agents. This evolution extends into Customer Communication Management, where scheduling agents dynamically balance workloads to lower compute costs. The firms analyzed in this year’s report include Adobe, Conga, Docusign, Dropbox, Ironclad, MHC, Mitratech, Namirial, Nintex, OpenText, PandaDoc, Quark, and Smart Communications.
