PBS Biotech Named Cell Therapy Developer of the Year

Life Sciences Review has named Camarillo-based PBS Biotech its 2026 Cell Therapy Products Development winner. The award highlights the company’s proprietary Vertical-Wheel bioreactor technology, which addresses a primary industry hurdle: maintaining cell quality while scaling production from initial research phases to full-scale commercial manufacturing for sensitive therapeutic types.

The company’s platform distinguishes itself from traditional stirred-tank bioreactors by utilizing low-shear forces to create a homogeneous environment. This design supports the expansion of delicate cell lines, including induced pluripotent stem cells, mesenchymal stem cells, and various immune-focused therapies like CAR-T and NK cells. By providing linear scalability, the system allows developers to streamline process development and accelerate technology transfer.

Martin Simonetti, CEO of PBS Biotech, credited the honor to the firm's focus on eliminating the traditional compromise between manufacturing volume and cell viability. As the cell and gene therapy sector matures, the company plans to continue expanding its technology portfolio to assist developers in overcoming production bottlenecks, ensuring that regenerative medicines reach patients with greater efficiency.
