General Motors Raises 2026 Profit Outlook After Strong Second Quarter

General Motors reported $48 billion in second-quarter revenue today, prompting the automaker to raise its full-year earnings guidance for the second time this year. Despite a dip in net income to $1.3 billion, the company posted a robust $3.9 billion in adjusted EBIT and announced a quarterly dividend of $0.18 per share.

The Detroit-based manufacturer cited improved operational performance as the driver behind its upwardly revised forecast. GM now expects full-year adjusted EBIT to land between $14 billion and $16 billion, up from its previous estimate of $13.5 billion to $15.5 billion. The company also boosted its outlook for adjusted automotive free cash flow, projecting a range of $9.5 billion to $11.5 billion.

While revenue grew 1.9% compared to the same period in 2025, net income attributable to stockholders fell by 31.1% year-over-year. Management pointed to significant adjustments, including costs related to the strategic realignment of its electric vehicle manufacturing footprint and restructuring actions in China, as key factors influencing the bottom line. Chair and CEO Mary Barra and CFO Paul Jacobson are scheduled to discuss these results with the investment community today at 8:30 a.m. ET.
