3M Raises Full-Year Outlook Following Strong Second Quarter

Bolstered by steady mid-single-digit sales growth and double-digit earnings expansion, 3M has lifted its financial expectations for 2026. The St. Paul-based manufacturing giant reported second-quarter adjusted earnings of $2.40 per share, topping prior estimates as the company continues to narrow its focus on core industrial and technological priorities.

The company posted quarterly sales of $6.5 billion, representing a 2.4% increase over the previous year, while adjusted organic growth reached 5.4%. Chairman and CEO William Brown attributed the results to disciplined execution and momentum in the firm's strategic initiatives, which include high-profile partnerships with Microsoft in AI data center infrastructure and Cadillac’s Formula 1 team.

Following the performance in the first half of the year, 3M updated its full-year 2026 guidance, now projecting adjusted earnings per share between $8.80 and $8.95. The company also reported an adjusted operating income margin of 24.9%, a 40-basis-point improvement year-on-year. Shareholders received $1.4 billion in returns during the quarter through a combination of dividends and share repurchases, reflecting the company’s ongoing efforts to streamline operations and prioritize capital efficiency.
