Operating as an extension of the Karmanos Cancer Institute, KSP manages the distribution of high-cost biologics and oncology treatments for patients battling complex, chronic conditions. The pharmacy’s model focuses on bridging gaps in care that local providers often cannot fill, specifically regarding financial advocacy and copay card coordination. By integrating services such as a new medication maintenance app, the team provides real-time care management for patients ranging from Michigan to Florida.
Stephen Kaurala, pharmacy manager at KSP, noted that the designation requires a dual focus: improving internal performance and contributing to broader industry benchmarks. The URAC evaluation process measures success across several critical domains, including patient experience, access to affordable care, and treatment efficacy. According to Surender Kanaparthi, chief pharmacy officer at Karmanos, the pharmacy’s recent technological upgrades have been instrumental in raising the bar for regional oncology support. KSP remains a key component of the broader McLaren Health Care delivery system, which serves over 700,000 lives across the Midwest.
