MSC Air Cargo Expands Fleet with Five Boeing 777-8 Freighters

MSC Air Cargo is doubling down on its long-haul capabilities, placing an order for five Boeing 777-8 Freighters. The deal, finalized at the Farnborough International Airshow, marks the first time the rapidly expanding logistics operator has tapped into the 777X family to bolster its existing all-Boeing fleet.

The 777-8 Freighter is positioned as the most capable twin-engine aircraft in its class, designed to lower fuel consumption and emissions while maximizing payload capacity. For MSC Air Cargo CEO Jannie Davel, the purchase represents a strategic pivot toward long-term operational efficiency, providing the range necessary to anchor the company's global network as e-commerce demand persists.

Boeing has now secured more than 80 orders for the 777-8 model, with MSC Air Cargo becoming the third European operator to commit to the platform. Brad McMullen, Boeing’s senior vice president of Commercial Sales and Marketing, noted that the aircraft will serve as a critical link for the carrier's international hubs. As widebody freighters currently facilitate roughly 75 percent of global air cargo capacity, this acquisition signals a significant effort by the MSC Group subsidiary to capture a larger share of the international freight market.
