Tso Chinese Launches Supervised Autonomous Delivery in Austin

Autonomous food delivery is hitting the streets of Austin, Texas, as Tso Chinese Takeout & Delivery begins using a fleet of supervised Tesla Model Y vehicles. The initiative, powered by infrastructure from Autolane and dispatch logic from Nash, marks a shift toward integrating driverless tech into daily restaurant operations.

The service debuted at the restaurant’s Cherrywood location on July 7, utilizing Autolane’s platform to manage vehicle supervision, loading, and curbside handoffs. Unlike experimental trials, this implementation functions through a standard checkout flow, allowing customers to receive meals without the need for traditional tipping.

Nash acts as the decision engine for the partnership, determining which incoming orders are suitable for autonomous transport versus human couriers. This dispatching process occurs in real-time, allowing the restaurant to manage capacity without requiring new software integrations or platform changes. Executives from both companies confirmed plans to expand the service to Tso Chinese’s four additional locations in the Greater Austin area later this year, with intentions to onboard further retail brands to the platform.
