Knight’s Crest Enters Market with Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon

Drawing inspiration from the strategic precision of a chess knight, the new wine label Knight’s Crest has launched its inaugural 2023 Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon. Founders Mario and Anna Monticelli aim to capture the premium regional fruit market while maintaining an accessible price point for everyday consumers.

The debut blend features 88% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Petite Sirah, primarily sourced from the Chalk Hill appellation with supplementary fruit from Mendocino. Winemaker Mario Monticelli notes the wine is designed to over-deliver on quality, moving away from industry pretense to focus on sustainable farming and craft. The resulting profile offers a concentrated palate of blackberry, dark cherry, and plum, underscored by cedar and baking spice notes.

Technically, the 2023 release underwent a 30-month aging process in French oak barrels, half of which were new. Bottled at 14.0% alcohol, the wine provides a smooth finish characterized by mocha and vanilla. It is currently available through select retailers, positioned as a versatile pairing for roasted meats and aged cheeses that remains approachable for immediate consumption or light short-term cellaring.
