Jerry O’Connell Revisits His Infamous Breakup With Giuliana Rancic

Two decades after their split, Jerry O’Connell is revisiting the end of his relationship with Giuliana Rancic. The actor, appearing on Kelly Ripa’s podcast, addressed the long-standing claim that he ended their romance via a condo intercom system, finally offering his perspective on the headline-grabbing 2004 breakup.

While O’Connell does not recall the specific words Rancic documented in her 2015 memoir, "Going Off Script," he stopped short of refuting her account. In her book, Rancic claimed O’Connell dismissed her through the security system with the line, "Nope, sorry, homegirl. Things change, but you take care, OK?" Rather than disputing the exchange, O’Connell praised his ex-partner’s storytelling, noting that if he were writing his own memoir, he would likely include such colorful dialogue himself.

Providing context to the event, O’Connell admitted he was a "terrible boyfriend" during that period. He confirmed that another woman was inside his home when Rancic arrived unannounced, forcing him to keep her out through the building's security gate. Though he declined to name the woman, he insisted the relationship was already failing, stating he wanted to avoid a confrontation. Despite the cheating allegations and the painful nature of the split, O’Connell maintained a respectful tone regarding Rancic’s writing, repeatedly calling her a smart narrator who knew how to turn a difficult personal experience into compelling Hollywood lore.
