Idaho-Wyoming Nuclear Corridor Lands $31 Million Federal Grant

The grant positions the Idaho Advanced Energy Consortium at the forefront of the national nuclear strategy. By integrating academic research, private manufacturing, and utility infrastructure, the initiative intends to secure domestic fuel production while bolstering grid reliability across the region. Executive Director Christi Gilchrist noted that the consortium’s diverse coalition of 45 partners serves as the backbone for this expansion, bridging the gap between laboratory research and commercial implementation.

Over the next five years, the project aims to generate hundreds of high-paying technical roles across Idaho and Wyoming. Projections suggest that every federal dollar invested will yield up to $4 in follow-on funding, turning the regional corridor into a scalable model for industrial growth. Hope Morrow, Vice President of the IAEC, emphasized that the investment transcends individual organizational interests, focusing instead on long-term energy security and the creation of a sustainable, high-skill labor market for the Intermountain West.
