Rockwood Sustainable Solutions Streamlines Tennessee Industrial Waste

As Tennessee lawmakers weigh stricter waste disposal regulations and potential shifts to the Jackson Law, local manufacturers face mounting pressure to divert materials from landfills. Rockwood Sustainable Solutions is positioning itself as a critical intermediary, managing the complex sorting and processing labor that industrial firms currently struggle to handle in-house.

The Lebanon-based recycler provides a centralized processing model for heavy manufacturing and automotive sectors, which frequently deal with mixed-material streams that are difficult to recycle individually. Instead of forcing companies to manage on-site sorting, Rockwood allows clients to consolidate plastics, scrap metal, wood, and cardboard onto a single trailer. The company then performs the de-boxing, grinding, and baling necessary to prepare these commodities for larger markets.

This approach has yielded measurable results for local industry. In one recent case, a Tier 1 automotive supplier partnered with the firm to overhaul its waste management, successfully cutting disposal costs by 55% while pushing its recycling rate above 90%. According to President Lincoln Young, the company’s current strategy focuses on end-market development to ensure that discarded industrial materials find functional reuse rather than ending up in landfills.

To scale these operations, Rockwood recently acquired a dedicated off-site sorting warehouse. This facility acts as a one-stop shop for manufacturers looking to hit net-zero waste goals without investing in expensive, specialized sorting infrastructure on their own property. By aggregating smaller volumes of ferrous and non-ferrous metals that would otherwise be uneconomical to transport, Rockwood mitigates the labor and logistics costs that typically burden regional manufacturers.
