This configuration includes a 3D-printed rotating turbine wheel, a critical advancement for the engine’s architecture. By shifting toward these production methods, the manufacturer aims to reduce design-to-capability timelines, addressing the high-volume demand for expendable propulsion systems.
Jill Albertelli, president of Military Engines at Pratt & Whitney, noted that the lessons learned from the TJ150 project are already being applied to the broader Valox engine family. These investments in additive manufacturing represent a strategic push to enhance scalability and production flexibility. The demonstration confirms that the hardware can meet mission requirements, providing a blueprint for future engine development within the RTX portfolio.
