The project, based on an upcoming debut novel by filmmaker Lindsey Anderson Beer, strips away the familiar focus on the Headless Horseman to explore a web of gothic intrigue and erotic suspense. Beer will write, direct, and produce the adaptation, which positions Katrina at the center of a dangerous, otherworldly love triangle. By centering the narrative on her agency, the film aims to dismantle the traditional dynamics that defined the 1820 short story and its various screen iterations, including Tim Burton’s 1999 feature.
This role builds upon Sweeney’s established career path in psychological thrillers, following her work in The Voyeurs and the box-office success of The Housemaid. While casting for the remaining members of the central love triangle remains unconfirmed, the project represents a significant departure from the male-led investigations that have historically dominated Sleepy Hollow adaptations. As production looms, the film stands as a key addition to a packed slate for the actress, who is also currently filming a live-action Gundam adaptation.
