Bodycam Footage Reveals Sunny Hostin’s Attempt to Shield Son from Citation

Bodycam footage from the MTA Police Department shows television personality Sunny Hostin invoking her professional background and her son’s academic credentials while attempting to prevent officers from issuing a trespassing citation to her 24-year-old son, Gabriel, who was discovered running on active Metro-North Railroad tracks in Westchester County.

The June 16 encounter occurred near New Rochelle, where officers spotted Gabriel Hostin on the railroad right-of-way. While the younger Hostin claimed he was simply seeking a hill for training and entered through an open gate, officers maintained that the area was clearly marked with “No Trespassing” warnings. Despite the presence of cameras and the potential for an arrest, police opted to issue a citation rather than taking him into custody, citing his cooperation and the fact that he was not standing directly between the rails.

Upon arriving at the scene, the co-host of "The View" immediately identified herself as a former federal prosecutor and highlighted her son’s status as a Harvard graduate and a teacher. She argued that the incident was an innocent mistake resulting from an open gate that obscured the warning signs. Now acting as her son’s legal counsel, Hostin has formally requested that the Westchester District Attorney’s office dismiss the citation. In her letter to prosecutors, she emphasized that the legal action would impose unnecessary consequences on a young man with no criminal history, maintaining that he lacked any intent to enter restricted property. Gabriel Hostin is scheduled to appear in New Rochelle City Court on July 31.
