China Unveils AI Plus Roadmap at World Artificial Intelligence Conference

Under the banner of global partnership, the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference opened in Beijing this Friday. The event highlights China’s strategic pivot toward the 'AI Plus' initiative, a comprehensive framework designed to integrate advanced machine learning across industrial sectors, public services, and international governance protocols.

The 15th Five-Year Plan serves as the foundation for this technological push, targeting six critical spheres including core research, industrial upgrading, and social governance. Among the most notable advancements is the Beinao-1 brain-computer interface, which has transitioned into large-scale clinical trials with a commercial launch slated for 2027. This development marks a significant step in embedding high-level intelligence into practical healthcare services.

Beyond medicine, the initiative is reshaping traditional sectors through automated agriculture, AI-driven energy dispatching, and digital financial risk management. The humanoid robot industry is also moving into a phase of standardized growth, aimed at expanding consumer-facing smart living applications. Parallel to these industrial gains, the government is integrating AI into public safety and disaster mitigation to refine modern governance structures.

China is concurrently pushing for multilateral AI oversight. Following the 2023 release of the Global AI Governance Initiative, Shanghai hosted the signing ceremony for the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization on July 16. This body focuses on ensuring that emerging technologies remain safe, controllable, and fair, reinforcing China's push to position its domestic solutions within a broader, globally shared framework.
