Shu Uemura debuts AI-driven 3D mirror at Tokyo flagship

Inside the new shu:ARTstage flagship in Tokyo’s Omotesando Hills, Shu Uemura is moving beyond traditional vanity mirrors. The L’Oréal-owned brand has deployed an AI-powered 3D facial scanning mirror, developed by Loook.ai, to provide customers with precise beauty insights and personalized product recommendations.

The system functions through a digital brush interface, guiding shoppers through a sequence that maps face shape, ratios, and feature balance. This data generates a personalized ID summary, offering specific guidance on contouring or brow shaping. Jaron Chan, International Brand General Manager at Shu Uemura, described the integration as a way to fuse digital precision with the traditional expertise of their makeup artists.

Beyond the flagship launch, retail innovation continues to accelerate elsewhere. SmartNovo has introduced a 21-square-meter autonomous container store in Poland under the Lewiatan brand. Managed entirely by AI, the unit handles inventory, security, and dynamic pricing, effectively functioning as a mobile vending machine. Meanwhile, furniture retailer La-Z-Boy is scaling its use of 3D Cloud technology, moving toward API-based rendering to eliminate manual production processes and refine the omnichannel customer experience.
