Gabriel Gondolesi Named First Latin American President-Elect of TTS

Gabriel Gondolesi, a surgeon at MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute, has been appointed president-elect of The Transplantation Society, marking the first time a Latin American physician will hold the leadership position in the organization’s history.

Dr. Gondolesi, who specializes in pediatric liver and intestinal transplantation, will begin his two-year term this September following the society’s international congress in Sydney. His appointment follows a quarter-century of engagement with the global organization, evolving from a standard member to vice president before his current selection.

Reflecting on his career path from Argentina to Washington, Gondolesi noted that representing his home region in this capacity serves as a personal and professional milestone. Thomas Fishbein, executive director of the MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute, stated that the appointment underscores the clinical excellence cultivated within their programs. Gondolesi, an alumnus of the National University of La Plata with fellowships from Buenos Aires and New York’s Mount Sinai, continues to focus on multidisciplinary care for complex transplant patients.
