University of Maryland Revives Blockchain Accelerator and Training

The Smith School’s renewed strategy centers on two primary pillars: the Blockchain Business Accelerator and the Blockchain Business Imperative. The latter, an asynchronous executive course, offers working professionals a deep dive into practical applications such as zero-knowledge proofs, stablecoins, and the intersection of blockchain with AI. Participants commit roughly four to five hours weekly over the six-week period to earn a professional certificate.

Following the coursework, entrepreneurs can transition into the 60-day accelerator program, which provides technical mentorship and guidance on refining business models. According to academic director Tej Anand, the program has already fostered a cycle of mentorship, with alumni returning to guide new founders. Dean Prabhudev Konana noted that the school is prioritizing the integration of blockchain with artificial intelligence and democratic governance frameworks to prepare students for shifts in healthcare, supply chain management, and financial services. Alongside the Blockchain@UMD student club, these programs form a dedicated pipeline for workforce development and venture creation in the Maryland area.
