Dorman’s transition to private mediation follows a distinguished legal career spanning public service and the judiciary. After earning her degree from New England Law Boston, she served as an Assistant District Attorney in Queens, where she balanced aggressive prosecution with a focus on rehabilitation. She later spent five years as Counsel to the New York State Welfare Inspector General, investigating fraud in state-funded training programs.
Her shift toward family law began in 1998, when she started serving as an Attorney for Children, representing minors caught in juvenile delinquency and custody disputes. This role required building trust with vulnerable clients, often visiting them in detention centers to advocate for their long-term stability. This foundation proved vital during her 14-year tenure as Principal Court Attorney to Judge John P. Colangelo in Westchester County. Working alongside one of the state's most prominent jurists, she mediated hundreds of matrimonial cases, refining the collaborative approach that now defines her private practice, Dorman Mediation Service LLC.
Today, Dorman leverages her judicial experience to offer realistic, court-informed solutions to separating couples. Beyond mediation, she serves as a parenting coordinator for high-conflict cases, working to resolve ambiguities and reduce toxic stress for children post-divorce. Her practice remains grounded in the philosophy that even the most contentious disputes can reach a resolution if the parties are guided toward a collaborative, rather than adversarial, path.
