Suffolk OTB Extends Evening Hours to Revive Nighttime Harness Racing

Under the neon lights of Islandia, Suffolk OTB is pushing its Racing Forum closing time to 10 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. The shift aims to capture the late-night crowd, transforming the betting venue into a hub for those who prefer their harness racing well after sunset.

The expanded schedule marks a strategic effort to deepen fan engagement by allowing patrons to follow live simulcasts throughout the entire evening. By bridging the gap between the traditional early finish and the late-night racing circuit, officials hope to provide a more immersive experience for the sport's core demographic.

Phil Boyle, President of Suffolk OTB, framed the decision as a direct response to the demands of a passionate community. The initiative goes beyond mere betting hours; the organization is partnering with the Standardbred Owners Association of New York to integrate human-interest elements into the venue. This collaboration will feature horsemen interviews and promotional appearances designed to highlight the personalities behind the track. Joe Faraldo, President of the SOA, welcomed the move, noting that the restoration of these evening offerings serves as a vital step in increasing broader awareness and accessibility for the sport across Long Island.
