JetZero Bolsters Board as All-Wing Aircraft Moves Toward Production

Former Acting Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan and veteran creative executive Eric Hirshberg have joined the board of directors at JetZero. The appointments arrive as the Long Beach-based startup transitions from developing its all-wing demonstrator aircraft to establishing the manufacturing infrastructure required for full-scale production.

CEO Tom O'Leary stated that the addition of both men provides the necessary expertise to navigate the shift from prototype to industrial-scale operations. Shanahan offers three decades of aerospace experience, including his tenure as President and CEO of Spirit AeroSystems and a long career at Boeing overseeing the 737, 747, 767, 777, and 787 programs. His background also includes serving as Deputy Secretary of Defense from 2017 to 2019.

Hirshberg brings a different set of credentials, having previously served as CEO of Activision and leader of the creative agency Deutsch LA. Since the start of 2026, he has acted as an advisor to the company. His current portfolio includes advisory roles at Beta Technologies and Skydio. Both new board members expressed confidence in the Z4 design, with Shanahan citing its efficiency and Hirshberg highlighting the balance between market opportunity and manageable technical risk.
