Saab Secures 8.7 Billion SEK Contract for German Navy Frigates

Deliveries for the project are scheduled to run from 2029 through 2032, with Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) serving as the prime contractor for the vessel construction in Germany. The agreement includes an option for the outfitting of additional frigates, potentially extending the scope of the collaboration.

Saab’s contribution focuses on the core offensive and defensive capabilities of the ships. The contract covers the installation of 9LV Combat Systems, which include specialized fire control and combat management software. Furthermore, the frigates will be outfitted with composite superstructures and a sophisticated sensor array, specifically the Sea Giraffe 4A Fixed Face long-range surveillance radar and the Sea Giraffe 1X lightweight multi-mission radar, alongside various passive sensor systems.

CEO Micael Johansson stated that the deal reinforces the company's commitment to the Bundeswehr, noting that these systems are designed to bolster the German Navy's anti-air, anti-submarine, and anti-surface warfare readiness.
