Georgia Educators Converge at LitLink 2026 to Refine Literacy Instruction

More than 650 educators from 155 Georgia school districts converged at the Gas South Convention Center this June for LitLink 2026. The three-day conference, co-hosted by the Georgia Department of Education and the Rollins Center for Language & Literacy, centered on advancing evidence-based practices aligned with the science of reading.

The conference theme, "Expanding the Conversation," emphasized the necessity of interdisciplinary research and collaborative leadership to improve statewide literacy outcomes. Over 450 classroom teachers participated in 52 sessions featuring nationally recognized experts, including Dr. Renée Boynton-Jarrett, Dr. Nicole Patton Terry, and literacy podcasters Melissa Loftus and Lori Sappington. These sessions offered practical strategies for translating complex research into daily classroom instruction ahead of the 2026–2027 school year.

Beyond technical instruction, the event focused on the holistic needs of learners. Dr. Renée Boynton-Jarrett challenged attendees to integrate trauma-informed practices into their pedagogy, noting that educators must consider the emotional wellbeing of students alongside academic goals. The program was structured around three pillars: connecting language to literacy, linking learning to measurable outcomes, and fostering a collaborative professional community.

This year's gathering marks the third iteration of LitLink, which has become a vital component of Georgia’s broader literacy movement. By providing research-aligned professional development, the conference aims to equip teachers with the agency to drive systemic change. For those unable to attend, the Rollins Center continues to provide ongoing support through the Cox Campus, an online platform offering free, accredited resources to educators worldwide.
